PlantComp 2022 - Workshop on plant sensing and computing

PlantComp will bring together young researchers in plant physiology, sensing and modelling. Due to the increased specialisation in these fields, researchers are often unaware of novel technologies from other fields. PlantComp is set up to bridge this gap and to facilitate a cross-pollination among these fields in plant sciences and to advance towards increased interdisciplinary research.

Plants grow in an ever-changing environment. Consequently, their performance strongly depends upon their ability to dynamically adapt their physiology to the altered environmental conditions. However, research is only just unravelling these response dynamics through improved sensing, phenotyping and modelling efforts.

Only combined efforts in phenotyping, sensing and modelling will enable us to uncover these dynamic plant aspects.

During this two-day event, PlantComp will bring together young researchers within the field of plant physiology, sensing and modelling in a single-track setting with plenary keynotes, comprehensive poster sessions and broadening introductory workshops.

PlantComp 2022 will take place at the iGent tower of Ghent University. This is a sustainable office building of 54 meters tall which features passive cooling and solar panels on the south-facing side of the building. Furthermore, in winter it is heated by using the waste heat from the 1000 square meter data center behind the building. The venue is close to the historical centre of Ghent, with a 1,000-year-old fortress, medieval towers and the most beautiful double row of houses on opposing river sides in Europe, all within walking distance from one another.

Researchers should submit an extended abstract to participate. These abstracts will be evaluated by two reviewers on their relevance, presentation, contents, approach and overall quality before acceptance. All participants are encouraged to extend their abstract to a full paper for publication in Frontiers in Plant Science.
